MADISON (WKOW) — For most of us, keeping cool during the summer is as easy as turning on the air conditioning.

But for those experiencing homelessness, and during the pandemic, it’s not so easy.

“We’re doing everything we can to at least get resources like water and even wipe or anything that can help, but yeah, we’re pretty limited,” Jeff Turk, vice president of the Friends of State Street Family, said.

He says the pandemic has shut down many of the places people would normally go to cool down.

“We used to be able to buy gift cards to give to our friends so they could sit and buy a cup of coffee and cool down for an hour or two,” Turk said. “Things that you don’t normally think about and now you no longer have that resource.”

But they’re not out of luck entirely.
